I have not been able to determine the name of the poem and the small amount of research I’ve done uncovered some claims that Johann Wolfgang von Geothe was not the original author. If any of my wonderful readers want to enlighten me about either of those facts, feel free.
Anyway, one of the points of this article is to share the poem with you. I believe this poem is quite well known so it would not be at all surprising if you know it already. I’d heard it before and as with so many things that we feel we know, we may not always give them the attention they deserve. So whether you know it or not, I suggest giving it five minutes today because the words truly are food for the soul…
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy,
The chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.
Concerning all acts of initiative and creation,
there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills
countless ideas and splendid plans:
That the moment one definitely commits oneself,
then providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would
never otherwise have occurred.
A whole stream of events issues from the decision,
raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance
which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.
Begin it now.
For anything you dream, trust that the moment you decide and commit, providence will move too. All of the resources you need will appear.
Hesitancy is fear. Boldness and courage are required to move past this. As I wrote in a previous article (Self-esteem Guaranteed) courage is a verb; you must make a move to be courageous. It’s doesn’t matter how small. ’Boldness’ does not have a standard size. Comparison with others is irrelevant.
Each time you take an action, you know if it was difficult for you. Feel into that.
Each time you do something and it’s not difficult for you, it was probably the same thing you did the day before. Feel into that too.
Some days you will move more than others. It’s all okay.
Just know that when you’re ready, when you dare to dream, when you commit (in the true sense of the word), dormant forces will come alive to support you.
